Naturally, the skin goes through cycles whereby old skin cells and are removed and replaced with new ones. For people with extremely dry skin conditions, the process is a lot slower, and instead of the old skin cells falling off by themselves, they hang on for a lot longer until they are physically or chemically removed (exfoliated). This is why dry skin feels rough.
Old, dry skin cells make it harder for most moisturizers to penetrate deeper into the skin. Lactic is a very gentle exfoliant and most skin types can use it without adverse reactions. Because of the gentleness of lactic acid, you can use this aha lotion daily. Consequently, this gives lactic acid and other ingredients such as niacinamide, in this lotion, extended contact with your skin, and as a result, your skin will experience daily improvement.
Lactic acid is naturally found in the skin as one of the Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF). What’s more, lactic acid increases the water-holding capacity of the skin which in turn increases skin hydration and skin turgor.

This lotion is handmade in small batches for high quality. I use only natural and safe ingredients which are free from:

Always start with clean skin. Cleanse your skin with a gentle or mild soap. This helps to thoroughly remove surface dirt, dead skin, built-up oils, grime, and toxins. If your skin is not clean, the lotion will NOT penetrate properly. Moreover, applying lotion to dirty skin will not be a pleasant experience.
Apply to slightly damp skin. The extra moisture on your skin helps transport the lotion and seal it in.
To apply: Scoop out a small amount with your finger. Rub together in the palms of your hands and apply evenly to your skin. repeat as needed.
This lotion (10% Lactic Acid) is ideal for any adult who is just starting out with lactic acid or Ahas in general. If you have extremely dry, flaky, and even dull skin, this lotion would be a great starting point. The acidity level is pretty low for any adult human to use for prolonged periods of time. Caution must, however, be practiced at all times.
Even though this body moisturizer brightens skin, it is not a skin whitener. Therefore, if you are looking for a skin-whitening solution, this may not work for you. The exfoliation only exposes the skin color that’s already naturally yours.
With that said, you will notice that after a few weeks or so of using this lotion, your skin will get used to it. When that happens, you may move to a higher strength like this one
Sometimes your skin may need a break from the acid and in that case, you can alternate with this other lotion. It will keep your skin feeling moist and comfortable all day.

I wish I could leave more then 5 starts. I am not new to aha I have used them all you name it I have used it. This is by far the best I have used. Really awesome lotion! Does not feel greasy. It has really helped to reduce my keratosis pilaris on my arms within a couple days of using it. Hopefully with some time it will lighten my tan a bit. Definitely will repurchase!

is lactic acid right for me?
Lactic acid is a gentle exfoliant that is ideal for various skin types. If you have never used lactic acid before, start with a low-strength lotion like our 10% AHA lotion. As your skin gets used to it, you can increase the strength to 15% and eventually to 20%.
do i need to wash lactic acid lotion off after application?
No. Lactic acid lotion is meant to be used like any other moisturizer; leave it on until your next shower/bath. You will only feel a slight stinging when you first apply the lotion, but that will only last less than a minute. However, if you experience an adverse reaction, please wash it off immediately.
does A Mermaid's Grace Lactic acid Lotion contain sunscreen?
No. It does not contain sunscreen.
do i need sunscreen with lactic acid lotion?
Lactic acid will increase your sensitivity to the sun. If you’re going to be out in the sun, don’t use lactic lotion or you could use sunscreen to protect yourself.
is lactic acid lotion safe?
Yes. Lactic acid is naturally occurring in our skin and it’s also been used in skincare for thousands of years. A Mermaid’s Grace formulation is very gentle and we are careful to use only ingredients that are natural and safe for the human skin.
Can I use lactic acid lotion everyday?
Yes, you can. However, you’ll find that after a while, your skin will start getting used to the lotion. When you first start using lactic acid lotion, your skin will experience a lot of exfoliation. After a while, your skin will build up tolerance against the lactic acid then you won’t see the same dramatic results.
In this case, you should alternate between a regular lotion (no lactic acid), a lower-strength lactic acid lotion, and a higher-strength lactic acid. You could choose just two to alternate.
my skin is really dry and cracked. Can I used lactic acid lotion?
You can. However, if your skin has deep cuts from the cracks, lactic acid will make it uncomfortable. You should start off with a deeply moisturizing cream like this one to help with the cracks. once your skin is no longer cracked, then you can start with a lower-strength lactic acid and move up from there and alternate.
what can I expect when using lactic acid lotion?
Your skin is not going to change overnight but it sure will feel great after the first application. You will find that your skin will stay moisturized for a long period of time.
After about 3 days, you’ll find that your skin feels a lot softer and smoother due to the exfoliation process.
The palms of your hands will start peeling before the rest of your body an when this happens, use a soft pumice stone to exfoliate.
